Cameroon – Agriculture – Pig breeding - 2016
Pig breeding development project in a Yaoundé suburb for a Cameroonian GIC – “Common Initiative Group” – and materialization of an end-to-end swine industry.
Since the beginning of 2014, we support the development of a pig farm in a Yaoundé suburb.
This project is a real challenge: not only the breeding scale has to be increased, (from 30 to 100 breeder/fattener sows) but also breeding management must be improved. All this is taking place in the very challenging sub-Saharan context.
For this ongoing project, AVe provides several senior volunteer experts to the GIC :
a senior agro-economist for the project global approach and specialists of swine production in breeding buildings and of breeding management, who intervene whenever needed. At the beginning of 2017, we are halfway towards the target.
We are optimistic about this project’s success, as a cooperative of about fifteen swine producers from Center Cameroon has just been established.
In this way a true end-to-end industry is materializing.
